The Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV) has established a partnership with the Chinese research center Academy of Global Food Economics and Policy (AGFEP), on 14 September, to develop studies on climate and sustainable agriculture.
The institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes a technical and scientific cooperation for research in the areas of climate change, sustainable agriculture and nature-based solutions.
The agreement will last two years from the date of signing and may be renewed if both institutions are interested in continuing the partnership.
The MoU provides for the joint organization of events and training workshops, the development of joint research and scientific publications, and the production of outreach content.
For ICV, the cooperation expands the institution’s international dialogue at a time when Brazil and China are taking a leading role in the global sustainability agenda, as two key countries in the discussion on resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
“The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding with AGFEP is a concrete step to connect the Brazilian experience in sustainable land use with China’s scientific research capacity. For ICV, the cooperation opens a channel for joint work on resilient and sustainable food systems”, Alice Thuault, ICV’s Executive Director, said.
According to AGFEP, the agreement strengthens knowledge exchange by fostering greater cooperation between Brazil and China.
“For AGFEP, the agreement strengthens its international research collaboration and provides an important platform for knowledge exchange between China and Brazil. The partnership will help connect scientific research and practical experiences from both countries, particularly in addressing climate change, promoting sustainable agriculture, and building more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems. It also creates opportunities for joint research and dialogue on global food and agricultural challenges, contributing to South-South cooperation and shared solutions for sustainable development”, Fan Shenggen, from AGFEP, said.
